Carl H. Yaeger
Carl H. Yaeger, 79 of Springfield and formerly of Scranton, Pennsylvania passed away Saturday, December 29, 2007 in his granddaughter's home.
He was born November 6, 1928 in Scranton the son of Hugo and Hilda (Staiber) Yaeger.
Carl was a 1946 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He completed overseas tours in Germany, Territory of Alaska, Thule Greenland, France, and two tours in Vietnam. Stateside assignments were in Texas, Wyoming, Maine, Indiana, California and Wright-Pat in Ohio. Some of his awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army and Air Force Good Conduct Medals, Occupation of Germany Medal, Medal for Humane Action with the Berlin Airlift Device, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with three Stars.
Carl was preceded in death by wife Jenny B. Yaeger, daughter Mary Tuckerman, parents Hugo and Hilda Yaeger and brother Hugo Yaeger Jr.
He is survived by his granddaughter Melanie (Darrin) Whitmore; great-grandchildren Stephanie and Stephen Whitmore and son-in-law Jerry Tuckerman all of Springfield; his sister Elsa Toole of Scranton, Pa.; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was a life member of American Legion Post 526 in Fairborn, a member of VFW Post 1031 and the Moose Lodge in Springfield. He enjoyed doing water exercises at the Springfield YMCA for many years. Carl was a loyal and devoted caregiver, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. American Legion Post Everlasting services will be Wednesday at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM. in the Memorial Home with Rev. Orbie Estep officiating. Cremation will follow. Committal services with full Military Honors will be held Friday at 11:00 AM. in Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Community/Mercy Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.
