James R. Vince
James R. Vince passed away on August 20 surrounded by his family in the home of his daughter. Jim was born on Maplewood Avenue in 1925 and lived in Springfield until 8 years ago.
He retired from International Harvester after 30 years of service.
Jim was preceded in death by the love of his life, June Ellen Vince and his son Tom.
He is survived by sons Rick of Mooresville, North Carolina, Jon and Patty Vince of Chesapeake, Virginia, and daughter Sue and Don Donovan of Southgate, Kentucky. Grand daughters are Megan Ball, Annie and Lyndi Vince and Allison Donovan. Grand sons are Jason and Jacob Vince and Keelan and Sean Donovan. Great grand children are Katelynn Donovan and Jack Ball. Nieces are Sue Fenton and Brenda Norman of Springfield. Nephew is Phil Barcafer of Pennsylvania.
On Jim's 19th birthday, June 6, 1944, Jim departed New Jersey for Europe with the 7th Armored Division and entered the war via the Normandy beaches. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Always known as the "kid" by his fellow soldiers, he is the last of Company C to survive their great adventure. Jim was a devoted father and husband. The value of family is his greatest legacy. His love, gentleness, and kindness will be missed by all he knew and touched. We will always miss you Dad.
Visitation will be held in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME , 1002 East High Street, Springfield, Ohio on Friday August 22 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in Rose Hill Burial Park Chapel with Rev. William Webb officiating. Burial will follow.
