Philip R. Tipton
Philip R. Tipton, 62, of Springfield, died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday September 19, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center.
He was born December 14, 1944 in Springfield, OH to Mervlin and Elizabeth (Gerhardt) Tipton. Philip was employed as the athletic director for the YMCA for 25 years and then worked for the Copeland Corporation and Navistar and more recently was working for the Clark County Sheriffs Department. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Marine Corp League, the New Carlisle Sportsman Club; American Trapshooters Association; N.R.A., Explorers Post 6; and was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jane A. (Bohn); 3 children, Holly (Matthew) Roddy, Philadelphia, PA, Kathryn Tipton Chambers and Christine Tipton, Springfield; 2 grandchildren, Alexandra and Jake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Conroy Funeral Home with Rev. Julie Carmean officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Dr. Singh, Dr. Sarihan and Community Mercy Hospice. Memorial donations may be made to the Special Olympics.
