William S. "Bill" Stevenson, Jr.


William S. "Bill" Stevenson, Jr., 89 of Springfield went to be with the Lord September 12, 2007. He was born September 22, 1917 in Atlanta, OH, a son of William S. and Rosa (Monteith) Stevenson. Bill was a WWII Army Veteran, 69th Armored Field Artillery, where he was awarded the Silver Star for his service in Italy. He was employed by National Supply (later Cooper Cameron) and retired in 1981 as a shipping supervisor after 44 years of service.

Bill was active in area sports for many years. He played fast pitch softball and received the Grant Uland Good Sportsmanship award in 1954. He bowled for many years in Clark County area leagues and was recently inducted into the Clark County Bowlers Hall of Fame. Bill also participated in senior golf leagues in the area and loved watching Ohio State sports.

Survivors include: wife of 65 years, Betty (Kramer) Stevenson; sons, James (Patricia) Stevenson of Springfield, OH, Jon (Sheila) Stevenson of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Todd Stevenson of Hilliard, OH, Jennifer (Nick) Walker of Pensacola, FL, Michelle Stevenson of Columbus, OH and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by siblings, Anna Mae Barrett, Ethel Gerhardt and Harmon Stevenson.

Family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, September 14, 2007 in the JACKSON LYTLE & WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, Springfield where service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday September 15, 2007 with Rev. John Pollock officiating. Interment will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.
