Virgil "Bill" Lee Smith


Virgil "Bill" Lee Smith, 75, of Springfield passed away Monday, August 13, 2007 in the Mercy Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

He was born July 31, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Homer Edward and Martha Darkis (Jackson) Smith.

Bill retired from Snyder Park Golf Course after 30 years of service. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served our country proudly during the Korean War.

Bill was an avid fisherman but most of all he was as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Barbara Smith; four daughters, Trina Flint of Georgia, Penny Sue Sam, Dolly Robinson and Mary Robinson all of Springfield; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Ronnie Flint both of Springfield, William and Ada Flint of Wilmington, Ohio and Bill and Bobbi Robinson of Springfield; one sister, Betty; two brothers, John Shoen of Lewisburg, Ohio and Robert; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mable and Posey and two brothers, Jerry and Bill.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2007 from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery with military honors.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Smith family.
