Philip Shonkwiler

Philip Shonkwiler, 85, of Springfield, passed from this life to be with the Lord he loved and served on December 24, 2007.

Philip was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shonkwiler on March 17, 1922.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Martha (Hoover); daughter, Barbara (Barry) Shelley; 2 grandsons, Bryan (Hannah) Shelley and Brad Shelley; sister, Opal Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Phil was a member of First Christian Church for 51 years where he served as a Bible School teacher and an Elder for over 25 years. He was a great Christian man and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He served his country during WWII and the Korean War. He retired from the Ohio Edison after 42 years.

Viewing will be held on Friday, December 28, 2007 from 4-7 PM at JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME - SPRINGFIELD, with funeral service on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 11 AM at the First Christian Church- 3638 Middle-Urbana Rd. Springfield, with a visitation 1 hour prior to service. Pastor Craig Grammer officiating. Entombment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church Building Fund, in memory of Phil.
