Alma A. Smith
Alma A. Smith, 71 of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 in the Community Hospital. She was born on January 20, 1936 in Springfield the daughter of Rex Leon and Irene (Bircher) Van Horn. During her life she worked at the Rustic Inn, Holiday Inn - West, Scooters and Marquee Catering. Alma also owned and operated the Bonfire and the Garden Club.
She is survived by four sons: Duke Smith of Springfield; Mark and Cindy Smith of Springfield; Doug and Karen Smith of South Vienna, and Kenny Smith of Springfield; two sisters: Wanda and Tom Knox of Catawba, and Louise Midgley of Florida; three brothers: Nelson and Bette Van Horn of Florida; Dale and Cheri Van Horn of Springfield, and Larry Van Horn of Florida; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friend, Cookie Chaney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Shirley Beckett, Carol Johnson, and Sandy Ferguson; and one brother, Billy D. Van Horn.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007 from 6-8 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where the service will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
