Kenneth Edward Peters
Kenneth Edward "Kenny" Peters, 90, went to be with the Lord, September 14, 2008, in Springfield, Ohio. He was born April 6, 1918, in Urbana, Ohio to Ray and Frances Bates Peters.
He graduated from Enon High School. He married Rose Virginia Tuttle February 8, 1941. Kenny and Virginia were married 58 years, prior to her death in 1999. They were the parents of four children. Kenny excelled in athletics and in 1929 and 1930 he was named The Springfield News and Sun Horseshoe Pitching Champion. He entered the U. S. Army in February 1943. He served under General George Patton as a combat engineer in North Africa. His unit invaded Salerno proceeding on to Naples, Rome, and the Austrian Border. Returning in 1945, Kenny was employed by Donahue and Hankel Distributing Company for many years and retired from Coy Distributing Company. Kenny and Virginia enjoyed the next several years in New Port Richey, Florida before returning to Springfield.
Kenny is survived by his children, Sondra and Clendon Thomas, Oklahoma City, Mike and Paula Peters, Oklahoma City, Jim Peters and Sharon Peters, Springfield, and John and Veronica Peters, Marion, Indiana; grandchildren, Brad Thomas, Ashley Bertelli, Kelly Dunn, Joey Peters, Danielle Smith, Ryan Peters, Melissa Peters, Dan Peters, Elizabeth Peters and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Law of Springfield, and brothers, Mike Peters of Springfield and Harold Peters, North Haledon, NJ.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Virginia, and brothers, Ronald Peters and Phil Peters.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at The Grand Court and Good Shepherd Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at CONROY FUNERAL HOME, 1660 East High Street, Springfield, Thursday, September 18, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Services to celebrate his life will be held at the funeral home, Friday, September 19, 10:30 am with Pastor Eric Mounts officiating. Burial will be in Garlough Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Community-Mercy Hospice.
