Betty Claire McCurdy


Betty Claire (Mitchell) McCurdy, 91, of Springfield, passed away Monday September 29, 2008 in her residence.

She was born January 23, 1917, a daughter of the late, William V. and Elsie L. (Cherry) Mitchell in Lorain, OH. Betty was employed by British Overseas Airway during WWII, where she met her husband of 50 years, Willis McCurdy. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution and St. John's Church where she helped to establish and direct the Outreach Store. She was a member of the Women's Town Club, Wittenberg Guild and BPW Club. Betty played veraciously in her bridge club. She was also an avid stamp collector and reader.

She is preceded in death by husband, Willis McCurdy. Betty is survived by their children; Dennis (Bonnie) McCurdy, Deborah McCurdy, Richard (Cindy) McCurdy; grandchildren, Logan McCurdy and Caitlin McCurdy-Robinson, Jennifer and Christopher McCurdy, Jenna and Julia Kuntz; special friend and caregiver, Pattie Lambacher. Although Betty was an only child, she maintained close relationships with numerous first cousins and her aunt who was only seven years her senior.

The family will receive friends 6-8PM Thursday October 2, 2008 in the JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS Funeral Home, N. Limestone; where a celebration of her life will be held 11AM Friday October 3, 2008 Pastor John Pollock officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Betty's memory to the Animal Welfare League.
