James "Jim" Lamanna
James "Jim" Lamanna, 69, beloved husband, stepfather, grandpa and friend, went from his family's arms into the arms of Jesus at 8:28 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2007.
Born December 15, 1937, he was the son of James and Helen (Woodard) LaManna who preceded him in death. He was a dedicated member of Northside Baptist Church where he shared his joy by serving in the adult choir, parking lot ministry, van driver and greeter.
Jim will now sing in heaven's choir with his stepson, Curtis Hatcher, who also preceded him in death.
Left to celebrate Jim's life are, his loving wife of 30 years, Elnora; daughter Melissa LaManna, Arizona; stepchildren, Dru Hatcher and Fred (Melissa) Hatcher; brother, Kenneth (Linda) LaManna; aunts, Virginia LaManna, Margaret Christopher and IvaJean McDorman; cousins, David and Scot McDorman, Madison, Wisconsin. His legacy will be his grandchildren, who never thought of themselves as "steps", Amanda (Chris) Bowsman, Jessica (JR) Foster, Kali Hatcher, Jamie and Corrie Hatcher, Mississippi, Vanessa and Bruce Hatcher, Grace Hatcher, Jon Curtis Hatcher and great grandsons, Eli and Caleb Bowsman and a host of friends and loved ones at Northside Baptist Church, which include John and JoAnn Harman and Howard and Shirley Blair and special family Dan and Pearl Cline.
He was a United States Air Force Veteran having served his country from 1957 to 1961. Jim retired from Cooper Tools in Springfield after 38 years of service. Jim's passion was fishing. He was a member of Clark County Bass Masters since 1987 and has many fishing trophies adorning his walls. Jim also loved to camp and fish with his family. In every part of his life and with every person he met, Jim was positive and smiling. His sense of humor, his laugh and his loving spirit never diminished, not even in the years of his failing health. He asks that this time of remembering be not a time of sadness, but of rejoicing, as he is with Jesus, whom he came to know just a few short years ago. The family wants to offer a special thanks to Community Mercy Hospice for the loving care they provided for Jim during his last months.
Visitation will held at Northside Baptist Church from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral services will be held at the church at 10 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Dave Hill officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum. It was Jim's desire that donations be made to Northside Baptist Church Building fund in his memory. The family is being served by the Conroy Funeral Home.
