Augustino A. Lippolis, Sr.


Augustino A. "Gus" Lippolis, Sr., 84, of Springfield, died at 11:45 a.m. April 20, 2008 in Springfield Regional Hospital Fountain Campus after one year of failing health.

He was born July 15, 1923 in Springfield, OH to John Joseph and Ruth (Longo) Lippolis.

Gus retired in 1979 from the Springfield Police Department after 26 years spending many of those years in the Traffic Division. He was a WW 2 Army Air Corp Veteran serving in the 82nd Airborne and served in Germany during the liberations of many concentration and P.O.W Camps. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1031, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 397, the Union Club and served on the Clark County Fair Board from 1981 to 1984.

Gus is survived by his wife, Sue (Seldman), who he married in Springfield May 14, 1947; a daughter, Patti (Jim) Wright; a son, Gus (Liz) Lippolis, Jr., all of Springfield; grandchildren, Tony (Cathie) Wright, Kalamazoo, MI, Amy (Tony) Riegel, Dayton, OH, Tony Lippolis and Rosie Lippolis, Springfield; a great grandson, James Thomas Wright, Kalamazoo, MI; a sister, Anna Ivory, Springfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Denita Lippolis, 2 brothers, Pete and Paul, and nieces, Anniena Ivory and Theresa Mitchell.

Friends may call in the Conroy Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with Fraternal Order of Police service at ______. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Boor, Dr. Monjot and the entire staff of Springfield Regional Hospital Fountain Campus, from the Emergency Room doctors, nurses, technicians and everyone who came into contact with Gus, your dedication to your jobs made you a part of our extended family.
