Wayne Kitchen
Wayne Kitchen, 93, formerly of Springfield, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Vernon Green Nursing Home in Vernon, Vermont.
Wayne was born and raised on a family farm in Pitchin and a graduate of Pitchin High School. He was a Navy veteran serving on a destroyer escort in the Pacific during WWII. He was employed at Sunbeam bakery for a number of years and retired from Kelsey-Hayes. Wayne had just received his 65-year pin from the Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio and was a member of Fielding Lodge 192 in South Charleston. He was a charter member and deacon of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Wayne resided in Clark County for 82 years moving to Jamaica, Vermont in 1996.
Wayne is survived by his daughter Elaine Murray and her husband, Charles, of West Townshend, Vermont; their three daughters, Kelley Murray of Jamaica, Vermont, Claire Ninde and her husband, Gordon, of Durango, Colorado, Sarah Shiflet and her husband, Clay, of Carbondale, Colorado and a great-granddaughter, Zoë Ninde. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Josie (Stewart) Kitchen of Pitchin , seven brothers and sisters; Rhoda Bussey, Frances Tuttle, Erasmus Kitchen, Margaret Miller, Stewart Kitchen, Rachel and Stephen Kitchen, as well as his wife of 56 years Janet (Husted) Kitchen who passed away July 11, 1995.
A graveside service will be held in early January at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, date and time to be announced. For those who wish, memorial contributions in Mr. Kitchen's memory may be made to your favorite charity. The family is being served by LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
