James Arthur Knight
James Arthur Knight, 91, of Springfield, passed away October 23, 2008 in Villa Springfield. He was born in Springfield on August 4, 1917 to the late Arthur O. and Ruth (Franklin) Knight.
At one time he was employed as assistant manager of the Van Dyne-Crotty warehouse in Springfield and later in Columbus. During World War II he was a member of the Special Police Force and Volunteer Fire Department at the National Supply Company (later White Motor and Cooper Energy). He retired from Cooper Energy in 1977 as a Group Leader after 26 years of service. Since 1978 he had been employed as a courier and maintenance supervisor for Home City Federal Bank, retiring in 2003 after 25 years.
He was a member of Local 155 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, attended Central United Methodist Church and Clark County Historical Association. He enjoyed his hobby of collecting milk bottles from old Springfield dairies and from foreign countries.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were four brothers, two sisters and special friends, Tom Gray, Ned Williamson, Julia and Frank Turner and Kayo Leach.
He is survived by his wife, W. Grace (Hall), who he married in 1939 and several nieces and nephews in Springfield and Clearwater, Florida and also his 'breakfast buddy' Bob Bowermeister.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Richard Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Animal Welfare League.
