William O. "Bill" Johnson


William O. "Bill" Johnson, 81, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Springfield, died at 3:40 p.m., July 22, 2007.

He was born July 19, 1926 in Springfield the son of Obert and Hildegarde (Schulz) Johnson. Bill graduated from Catawba School and served his country during WWII while in the Army. He enjoyed being with people. While a young man living in Springfield, he drove for the city of Springfield Bus Company and started his family. In the 1960's Bill moved to Columbus where he continued to drive charter busses and ultimately retired from C.O.T.A. transportation in Columbus.

Bill once said, the happiest day of his life was the day his son was born. He was so very proud of Gary and all of his accomplishments. Survivors include his son, Dr. Gary R. (Allison) Johnson, Winterhaven, Florida; two granddaughters, Dr. Jennifer Giglia of Nashville, Tennessee, and Dr. Amy Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida; three brothers, Paul E. Johnson, Yellow Springs, Ohio, David L Johnson, Columbus, Ohio and Richard M. (Darlene) Johnson, Clearwater, Florida; four nieces, Irene J. Duffy, Springfield, Arla D. Holder, El Paso, Texas, Linda B. Scholpp, Mt. Dora, Florida and Cindy Duffy, Clearwater, Florida and one nephew, W. Steve Johnson, Goose Creek, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Richard Johnson Jr., and a sister-in-law, Hazel H. Johnson.

His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Ferncliff Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Dan Sudlow officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the Chapel. Burial will follow. Arrangements are being handled by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
