He was born June 28, 1923 in Springfield, OH to Roy C. and Fern A. (Sparrow) Jenkins. Rodger graduated from Olive Branch High School in 1942 and was a WW 2 U.S. Navy Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles, sister, Phyllis and infant sisters Esther and Charlotte.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Bertha (Green) Jenkins; sister, Dora Ella Kimball; 3 children and spouses, Linda (Jim) Maurer, Rodger (Trish) Jenkins, Jr. and Sam (Sue) Jenkins; grandchildren, Ben (Emily) Maurer, Jamie (David) Ryan, Jason (Gail) Jenkins, Zach and Casey Jenkins and Christy, Sammy and Marty Jenkins;four great grandchildren, Benjamin Maurer, Alex, Hanna and Andrew "Charlie" Ryan; numerous nieces and nephews and a family he loved as his own, Linda and Larry Sloan, Kevin (Ala) and Scott.
He spent a majority of his life as a farmer and could always be found tending his apple trees, grapes and his garden. In later years, he worked at Morgal Machine Tool Company and helped his wife baby-sit his great grandchildren. As a husband, he supported and cared for his wife of 59 years, Bertha, during her times of sickness and in health. Together they enjoyed traveling with friends from Elderly United, going to shows at the Clifton Opera House, being involved in their church, Bethel Lutheran, the Clifton Historical Society, Clifton Senior Citizens and spending time with their family.
As a father, he always worked hard to provide for his family and was known for both his sense of humor and calmness in times of stress. He was the protector and cornerstone of his family and was looked up to as a hero and man of virtue and great faith. As a friend, he was dearly loved for his listening ear, contagious laugh and willingness to help others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but we all have been greatly blessed by his presence in our lives.
A special thank you to Dr. Joseph Mormon for his kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held at 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A funeral service honoring his life will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Bannick officiating. A private graveside service will be held with the family. Family requests donations to be made to Bethel Lutheran Church or a favorite charity.
