John Lennon Hurst
John Lennon Hurst, 72, of Springfield was received by the Lord at 6:35 AM., Saturday, March 1, 2008 in Mercy Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born February 14, 1936 in Jamestown, Tennessee the son of James and Wytie (Stinton) Hurst and resided in Ohio most of his life.
John retired from Navistar with 32½ years service and was a member of the Union Club, Machinist Club, Eagles 397, The Social Club and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, camping and playing cards, and had a great love for Cadillac cars and playing guitar.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a baby daughter Dianna Rae Hurst; brothers Arnold, Elmo, Loren and Billy Hurst; sisters Alma Hooten, Ellen Stancel and Myrt Catron.
He is survived by his loving wife Debra (Gano) Hurst. They were sweethearts for thirteen years and then united as one in marriage for an additional twenty-two years. He is also survived by two sons Mitch (Jill) Hurst of Springfield, Jason (Sharon) Hurst of Hammond, Indiana; two daughters Teresa (Tony) Deskins and Sherry (Robert) Shaffer , both of Springfield; five grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Heather Barnwell of Biloxi, Mississippi, Zach and Peter Hurst, Kerry and Corey Baird, all of Springfield; one great grandson Paul Michael Barnwell; three brothers Gen, Clell and Larry Hurst; four sisters Vina Hurst, Elizabeth (Chuck) Livermore, Faye Everly and Sherry Hurley; six step brothers, all of the Padgett family in Kentucky and many other family and friends.
Debbie's heartfelt gratitude goes out to a special niece Robin Washburn, the Mercy Medical Center Hospice staff and many who supported her in prayer during this time.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 4-7 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM. in the Memorial Home with Robin Washburn of Fellowship Christian Church officiating. Interment in Rose Hill Burial Park. Following the burial, there will be gathering at VFW Post 1031.
