James "Lee" Helton


James "Lee" Helton, 84 of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2008 in the Community Hospital.

He was born on January 27, 1923 in Barbourville, Kentucky the son of Levi and Eliza (Tucker) Helton.

Lee served our country in the United States Army during World War II in the 3rd Infantry 76th Division (know as "Patton's Army") and fought in the "Battle of the Bulge." He worked at Shaffer's Bakery for many years and later was a custodian at Good Shepherd Nursing Home and Northwestern High School.

He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Joyce (Puckett) Helton, four daughters and three sons-in-law: Deborah and Rick O'Brien of Urbana; Joyce Ann and Stan Weaver of Indiana; Karen S. Hinton of Springfield; Kimberly and Kevin Martin of New Carlisle; two sons, Steve and Gary Helton of Indiana; one sister and brother-in-law, Bessie A. and Dewey Anderson of Xenia, two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Lois Helton of Springfield, and Eugene and Helen Helton of Youngstown, eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Donald Lee Helton, and two brothers, Clarence and Joe.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2008 from 6-8 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Services will be held on Friday at 1:30 pm in the Rose Hill Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow.
