James Michael "Po-Po" Dunn
James Michael "Po-Po" Dunn, 53, of Springfield, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside after a long, hard fought lengthy illness.
He was born in Lakewood, Ohio on January 26, 1954 the son of Joseph and Mary (Hubbard) Dunn. As a teenager, he began boxing after being greatly influenced by his grandfather, Jimmy Dunn, a ring boxer in his own right and the manager of Johnny Kilbane. Jim had an impressive record of knockouts and became a Golden Gloves Champion in Cleveland in 1972.
He was a 1972 graduate of North Olmstead High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the submarine U.S.S. Sculpin. He was honorably discharged in 1975. Jim worked as a supervisor at Heat Treating Inc. for 20 years. He was a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan, was an avid fisherman, and was very much into the martial arts.
Together with his wife, Gail, he raised chickens, cows and pygmy goats on their family farm.
In addition to his father, Joseph Dunn of Maryville, Tennessee survivors include his wife, Gail E. (Emerick) Dunn whom he married on June 9, 1980; daughter and son-in-law, Aaron and David Brown of Springfield; two beloved grandsons, Bradley James Dunn and Dylan Michael Dunn of Springfield; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Jim Hohenadel of Chicago, Illinois; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Kathy Dunn of South Carolina, Tommy and Julie Dunn of Lakewood, Ohio, and Robert Dunn of Ashland, Ohio.
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews; godson, Brendan Dunn of Cleveland; and his beloved dogs, Chi-Chi, Taco, Shotsi, and Buster. He was preceded in death by his mother in February of this year, mother-in-law, Meta Emerick in 2001, and father-in-law, William Emerick in 1992. Jim wanted no services or fanfare with his passing.
His wishes were to be cremated and taken back to the farm where he lived, loved and died. The family requests that memorial contributions in Jim's memory be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 1340 N. Fountain Blvd., Springfield, Ohio 45504. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Stella, Sue, Candy, and Diane for their love and support these past 14 months. Jim-Bob, you were loved much and will be greatly missed. Now get down to the fishing spot, dad and Byron are waiting for you.
