Dorothy Mae Digel


Dorothy Mae Digel, 88, of Springfield died Monday, October 15, 2007 in Hearth and Home.

Dorothy was born November 19, 1919 in Castile, New York and came to Springfield when she was five years old. Her parents were Carl (a local Attorney) and Hazel (Epley) Digel. Miss Digel was a graduate of Wittenberg University and taught English, French and Latin for forty-one years, retiring in 1981 from Springfield City Schools. Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in many aspects of church life. She was also active in community organizations such as Fortnightly Musical Club, Wittenberg Guild, Woman's Christian Temperance Union, Christian Women's Club, Church Women United, Christian Fellowship Group, Delta Kappa Gamma, Ohio Retired Teachers Association and other teachers' groups.

Dorothy always enjoyed family get-togethers and maintained strong relationships with all her relatives. All of her family is proud of Dorothy and the life she lived.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Judge Lewis W. Digel in 1995.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Janet Digel and her husband George Koerner of Springfield; niece Sarah (Evan) Miller of Ridgefield, Connecticut; nephews Robert H. (Kerry) Digel of Springfield, John C. (Marisa) Digel of Troy, Ohio; great nephews Robert Digel of Olathe, Kansas. Nicholas (Kellie) Digel of Hilliard, Ohio, Matthew (Verity) Digel of Springfield, Dylan Digel of Troy, Aaron Miller of Ridgefield, Ct.; great nieces Korinne Digel of Troy, Audra Miller of Ridgefield, Ct.; great great nieces Zoe Digel of Springfield and Madeleine Digel of Hilliard; and many extended family in Marion, Ohio.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME and Thursday from 3-4 PM. in church. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4:00 PM in First Baptist Church with Pastor Ken DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in Marion (Ohio) Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to First Baptist Church or to Community/Mercy Hospice.
