James Edward Burba


James Edward Burba, 86, of Springfield, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 31, 2008.

He was born In Greene County on the John Bryan State Park in a log cabin on November 9. 1921, the son of Robert and Maude (Smith) Burba.

Jim enlisted in the United States Navy the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed and served until October 1946. Jim served on four ships and was proud of his service record. He loved to garden and share with his neighbors. He retired from Sweet Manufacturing Company with 30 years of service. He also had a neighborhood paper route for a few years after his retirement from Sweets. Jim was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Derr Road.

He leaves a devoted wife of 62 years; Catherine E. (Cornell) Burba, one son Michael (Toni) Burba of Norfolk, Virginia, three daughters ; Patty Burba of Columbus, Ohio, Connie Burba of Springfield, and Vicky (Norman) Johnson o0f Springfield. Jim leaves five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and many loving brothers in law and sisters in law. He has one surviving brother; Gene (Velma) Burba of Springfield and many nieces and nephews.

Jim's parents, one brother and six sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday April 4, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Derr Road. Services will be held at 11:00 AM with Bishop Dave Guarts officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice % 8087 Washington Village Drive, Suite 120, Dayton, Ohio 45458 or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Arrangements are being handled by the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
