Allen A. Barnhart
Allen A. Barnhart, 85, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away January 23, 2008, at home, in the arms of his devoted wife, June.
He was born on February 13, 1922, in Fortville, Indiana, the son of the late Hazel and Dallas Barnhart.
He retired in 1983 from the Hardwick Stove Co. where he served 20 years as Midwest Regions Manager. The preceding 15 years, he was with Cribben & Sexton Co. where he served as Sales Trainee, Division Manager, Product Manager, and V.P. of Sales. He and first wife, Helen, were founders and owners of the Barnhart Realty Investment Co., a rental property business which they founded in 1963. They were also founders and owners of the Wonder Blinds Corporation of which Mr. Barnhart was CEO and President.
He was a member of Northridge United Methodist Church, The Springfield Museum of Art, Masonic Lodge #477 of Eden, Indiana, and the Clark County Property Management Association. He had a strong work ethic and felt wasting time was the worst sin of all. He lived his life with the constant goal of being productive. Therefore, he was active with the church, family, business and hobbies of oil painting and outdoor sports.
He is survived by his beloved wife of eight years, June Barnhart; one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip A. and Sheila Barnhart of Kohler, Wisconsin; two daughters and son-in-law, Rita (Reynolds) Butcher and Becky and Carl Smittle of Springfield; one step-son and daughter-in-law Kent and Sally Maynard; five grandchildren and spouses, Jeff (Tammy) Barnhart, Dr. Amy Smittle, Tracy ( Darrell) Raap, Brian (Suzanne) Smittle, Jennifer (Jonathon) Tomlinson; eight great-grandchildren, Zack and Trevor Barnhart; Miranda Tomlinson; Marissa, Caleb, and Aiden Smittle; and Jenna and Derek Woodyard; one sister and brother-in-law, Nondas (Sis) and Ed Butz of Indianapolis, Indiana; one brother and sister-in-law John (Bud) and Vivian Barnhart of Pendleton , Indiana; a paternal aunt, Mrs. Esther Cook of Wilkinson, Indiana; 5 nieces, 2 nephews, several cousins of Hancock and Madison counties in Indiana, and special friends Dick and Jackie Schaefer of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Helen L. Barnhart.
The family will be receiving friends from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Jackson Lytle & Williams Funeral Home, 2425 N. Limestone St., Springfield, Ohio. A celebration of Allen's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2008 at Jackson Lytle & Williams Funeral Home with reverend Ken Woode officiating. Burial will be held in Ferncliff Cemetery.
