William J. Allison, M.D.


William J. Allison, M.D., 92, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2007 in the Mercy Medical Center. He was born on August 8, 1914 in Springfield, the son of William J. Sr. and Atha (Cooper) Allison.

He was educated in the Springfield City Schools, attended Jefferson grade school, Roosevelt Junior High and graduated from Springfield High School class of 1932, Wittenberg University class of 1938 with a Liberal Arts Degree majoring in Chemistry and Biology. He later went to Marquette University School of Medicine, to obtain his M.D. Degree. He interned in the Springfield City Hospital. He took an Anesthesiology Residency with University of Miami, Miami, Florida, Jackson Memorial Hospital, until 1960.

Bill entered the United States Air Force on May 18, 1951 where he served our country as a Flight Surgeon. After the service he returned to Springfield to begin his General Practice and Anesthesiology. In 1958 when he moved to Florida for additional training in Anesthesiology. He again returned to Springfield where he practiced at Mercy Medical Center for twenty-four years retiring in 1984.

Bill was very active in the Springfield community in many civic and community organizations including: the Springfield Kiwanis Club, Boy Scouts of America, St. Andrews #619 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and numerous medical organizations. He was a lifetime member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Mary R. "Becky" Allison of Springfield; three daughters and sons-in-law: Linda A. and Joseph Kennedy of Troy; Rebecca Sue and Tom Wettig of Van Wert; and Sarah Jane and Joe Weigandt of Waynesville; one son, John and Cindy Allison of London; one sister Ruth Diley of Arizona; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 from 5-8 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where a service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
