Marie F. Auckerman


Marie F. Auckerman, 83, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, April 19, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on July 16, 1923 the daughter of Edward J. and Blanche (Cline) Bassell.

In 1990, Marie retired from the F.F. Mueller Residential Center where she had served as a counselor at the Blue Cottage for 25 years. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Larry Knisley of Portland, Oregon and Cathy and Ernest "Buck" Winterhoff IV of South Vienna; a brother, Charles E. Bassell of Des Moines, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Todd (Jill) Knisley, Paige (Timothy) Schafer, Heather (Michael) Johannes, Trisha (David) Gerlitz, Ernest "Quent" Winterhoff V, Matthew (Susanne) Winterhoff, Katelyn (Joseph) Campbell, Dustyn (Marti) Auckerman, Shelly (Nicholas) Finnegan, and Jesse Auckerman; nine great grandchildren, Taylor, Kailey, Ashley, Madison, Andrew, Tyler, Jillian, Clara, and William; and many nieces and nephews. Marie's family would also like to honor the Auckerman family for their years of devotion and love, and her lifelong friend, Mary Rockfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William R. Auckerman in 1969; a son, William Dale Auckerman; three sisters, Edna Markin, Eleanor Parish-Miller and Margaret Bassell; and a brother, Harry E. Bassell.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in St. Bernard Church with Rev. Fr. Paul Hurst officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
