Catherine M. "Katie" (Crabill) Agle
Catherine M. "Katie" (Crabill) Agle, 78, of South Vienna, passed away, Monday morning, February 4, 2008 in Community Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on her parents' family farm (which has been designated as an Ohio Century Farm) in Springfield Township on September 29, 1929 the daughter of Elden J. and Hazel (Otewalt) Crabill.
She attended Reid School and was a graduate of Springfield High School and The Ohio State University. She retired from teaching from the Northeastern School District after 23 years of service. Katie was a member of the Plattsburg United Church of Christ and served as a Sunday School teacher, superintendent of the Sunday School, KJOF Class, and Women's Fellowship. Prior to her marriage, she was a member of Fifth Lutheran Church.
She was a member of 4-H for ten years and served as a 4-H advisor for 53 years. She received the Friend of 4-H Award in 1999 and will be inducted along with her husband, Jim into the Ohio 4-H Hall of Fame on March 8, 2008. Her involvement in farming and agriculture groups included the Pitchin Grange, State and National Grange, Tecumseh Land Trust, Farm Bureau Council 6, and the county and state Cattlewomen' s Association. Katie was also a member of the Remembrance Quilt Guild, Plattsburg Homemakers, Clark County Home Economics Association, the Community Hospital Auxiliary, and the Ohio 4-H Alumni Association.
She is survived by her husband, G. James Agle whom she married on June 21, 1951; three children, Barbara Leis of Germantown, Ohio, William (Polly) Agle and Robert (Peggy) Agle, all of South Vienna; grandchildren, Nathan and Anna Leis, Adam (Molly) Agle, Lindsay Agle, Emily Agle, Allison Agle; and a great grandson, Garrett Jason Agle. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Rebecca Sue Leis, and a sister, Martha Ann Rhonemus.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME and one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Plattsburg United Church of Christ with Rev. Glennyce Grindstaff officiating. Burial will be in South Vienna Cemetery.
