AN ORDINANCE
To determine the compensation of the mayor, and other officers of the city of Springfield.
Sec. 1. The city council of Springfield ordain, That the mayor of the city shall receive a salary of two hundred dollars per year to be paid out of the city treasury, which salary shall be in addition to the fees which he may receive in his judicial capacity, allowed him by the city charter.
Sec. 2. The city clerk and recorder shall receive a salary for all services of sixty dollars, to be paid out of the city treasury.
Sec. 3. The city marshal shall recieve a salary of three hundred and fifty dollars per year for the performance of his general duties as marshal, to be paid out of the city treasury, and in addition thereto he shall be allowed to charge and receive the same fees for the service and return of process in civil and criminal cases, and in case of infraction of the ordinances of this city, as shall be allowed by the laws of this state, to constables upon similar process, and when any special duty or service shall be imposed upon the city marshal by any ordinance of the city council, he shall receive such compensation therefor as shall be provided for in the ordinance imposing such service or duty.
Sec. 4. The city treasurer shall receive one half of one percent. per centum upon all moneys paid out by him on the order of the city council, which percentum shall be in full for his services as treasurer, in receiving, safekeeping, and paying out the funds of said city.
Sec. 5. Each member of the city council shall receive the sum of one dollar for every meeting of the city council which he shall attend, to be audited by the city clerk and recorder, and paid by the treasurer upon his order.
Sec. 6. Each member of the city council, or other person who shall perform the duties of judge or clerk at the annual city election, shall receive for that service the sum of one dollar, to be paid out of the city treasury, upon the order of the city clerk and recorder, but nothing in this section shall be so construed as to prevent the city council by a vote to pay an additional dollar to clerks of the annual city election.
Sec. 7. The city engineer shall receive compensation for his services at the rate of three dollars per day, for the time during which he shall be actually engaged in the performance of his duties.
Sec. 8. The salaries of the mayor, clerk and recorder, and marshal shall be paid quarterly on the last days of May, August, November and February.
Sec. 9. This ordinance to take effect and be in force from and after the first day of May, 1852.
